Handle and scabbard of wood, bound with braided rattan rings. The pommel cap, and the spacer between the blade and handle, are of carabao (water buffalo) horn, pegged in place.

 Myanmar (Burma) Kachin States. Late-19th or early-20th Century. Wooden hilt and scabbard are covered with silver sheeting and silver wire decoration. Grip section is covered with woven silver wire. Hilt is capped with a silver lotus bud pommel. Blade is laminated steel.

Northern Burma (Myanmar) or Yunnan Province, China. Late 19th Century. Blade is laminated steel and spatulate in shape. Heavy silver fittings over wood on the hilt and scabbard. Various semi-precious stones set into silver fittings on scabbard and a large turquoise set into the end of the hilt. Scabbard has two suspension rings in the Chinese style.

A collection of fine Naga spears
Naga land, Assam, Burma

                                        


A fine grouping of Naga spears.

This grouping of spears are from the Nagaland/Assam regions and the northern border regions of Burma.
Each spear is made from bamboo being both black bamboo and another more typical type found in the regions.
Each end is fitted with an iron spear head and butt spike.
The spear shafts are bound with dyed goat hair and twine with the mid section without hair for gripping the spears.

A fine and interesting selection of spears measuring from 165-185cms long.
